US Foreign Policy The takeaway - the massive increase in US arms sales is about arming US allies in the Middle East, particularly to send Iran the message that the US and Israel are not the only ones capable of countering aggressive acts. However, the move also allows the US to shift forces towards the Pacific theater in order confront piracy and terrorism threats, but also to safeguard, or confront, the growing economies of China and India.
