1945 GMT: Airstrike. Graphic footage has been posted which claims to be of people trying to put a fire, including burning victims, after an airstrike on Jobar in Damascus.

1915 GMT: Insurgents and "Al Qa'eda". The opposition Syrian National Coalition has chided Jabhat al-Nusra leader Abu Mohammad al-Golani for praising the ideals of Al Qa'eda head Ayman al-Zawahiri while emphasising that JAN is fighting with and for the Syrian people:

The Coalition views with utmost concern recent statements made regarding the Syrian people and the rebels....We urge Jabhat al Nusra to stay within the ranks of nationalistic Syrians, to continue its efforts in fighting the Assad regime, and in supporting and protecting the freedom of all Syrian sects.

Other factions within the insurgency have also criticised the al-Golani statement.

1735 GMT: Airstrike. Activists claim that at least 12 people have been killed in Saraqeb in Idlib Province, possibly by a "barrel bomb". Alleged footage of the bomb and explosion:

1615 GMT: Casualties. Activists are claiming that at least three people have died in a Kurdish area of Aleppo Province from the effects of a gas attack --- claimed footage of injured victims:

1315 GMT: Journalists Released. Four Italian journalists kidnapped and held since 4 April have been freed, Foreign Minister Mario Monti said today.

Monti's statement gave no details about who had taken the reporters hostage or the timing of next steps, but Italian State news agency ANSA said they were now in Turkey and would return to Italy on Saturday evening.

Monti thanked those involved in securing the reporters' release "which was particularly complicated because of the dangerous context".

A journalist for Italy's RAI television. two free-lancers, and an Italian-Syrian reporter were in northern Syria to film a documentary about the insurgent faction Jabhat al-Nusra.

The RAI journalist, Amedeo Ricucci said by telephone that the group had been held by an armed Islamist group, that none of them were wounded, and that all were in good health.

1115 GMT: "Non-Lethal" Aid. Having a bit of fun with recent US commitments of "non-lethal" aid to the insurgency, members of the Free Syrian Army offer Washington the same to defend the US against North Korea:

0505 GMT: Message from the Opposition. In a week filled with chatter about extremism within the insurgency --- to the point of Al Qa'eda controlling part of it --- the opposition, through protests and statements, declared on Friday: “Syria is Stronger Than Those Who Would Divide It”.

The Local Coordination Committees asserted, "Whatever happens, Syrians insist on a complete revolution until dignity, liberty, and the building of a state for all Syrians is achieved."

Meanwhile, the LCC claimed 119 people were killed on Friday, including 47 in Damascus and its suburbs, 21 in Aleppo Province, and 16 in Homs Province.

The Violations Documentation Center reports 56,509 people killed since the beginning of the conflict in March 2011, an increase of 185 on Thursday. Of the dead, 44,861 are civilians, a rise of 107 from yesterday.
