Thanks to all readers for your patience today.

1025 GMT: Political Prisoner Watch. Journalist Bahman Ahmadi Amoui has gone back to prison after 72 days on temporary release.

Amoui and his wife Jila Bani Yaghoub were arrested on the night of 20 June and were immediately sent to Evin Prison. Amoui was initially sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison; the term was reduced to 5 years after appeal.

Before going back to Evin, Amoui and his family took this picture:

0720 GMT: We open this morning with apologies for a limited service, as we are also LiveBlogging the stunning development of the Israeli attack on ships carrying aid to Gaza.

This morning opens with the English translation of yet another statement from opposition figures in the run-up to the 12 June anniversary of the election. Zahra Rahnavard, on the eve of the birthday of Fatemeh, the daughter of the Prophet Mohammad, and Women's Week, has issued a statement calling on all to honour the rights of women and the Iranian authorities to release political prisoners. We've posted the text in a separate entry.

Observer
Today I found this article and I was very upset for iranian people; two days ago, Arshama sent an article in the same theme but concerning US army; I hope the expression " there is no smoke without fire" in this case is not true; unfortunately his allegations about "Israeli Defense Forces efforts to block the Gaza flotilla"were true; I am sure that Israel's will to attack Iran was true as well and thanks to Obama administration was stopped so far, but I have just said "so far" !

Bill
Not at all ,She's irreplaceable; she will take her place after her coming back; at the moment, I find good articles and spread news to readers ! and I am so excited, I sense "freedom", like a horse galloping after sensing its stable :-) !

Merci beaucoup, Ange, for all your postings :-)

The news about the US fleet gathering opposite the Iranian coast was apparently a hoax, nevertheless I'm as concerned as you. The terrible Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla has much aggravated the already critical Near Eastern situation, hopefully not a herald for a new war...

@ 1300 GMT: Preparing for 12 June

AP has just posted the news about Mousavi's and Karroubi's demand for a rally permit. Should label them as ASAP News :-)

The Society of Qom Seminary Teachers and Researchers list a number of solutions for leading the Islamic Republic out if its “crisis” with election protesters.
A return to the provisions of the Constitution, release of political prisoners and identification and prosecution of perpetrators of murders are the top solutions mentioned by the reformist organization.
They also call for freedom of the press and free elections in order ‘to return the Revolution and the objectives of the Imam (founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini) to its original path.”

Ange,

Thanks for your response. Is catherine on vacation or something? I haven't seen her post for a bit and she is usually the one all over this stuff. And yes I sense freedom to--hopefully it be a sense all Iranians can truly feel once the regime crumbles!

Thx
Bill

Arshama,

"rally permit" fat chance of that getting approved! I would think their arrest warrants stand a far greater chance of getting approved!

thx

To pro-governmental people,
Few hours ago I said " I am as a horse ...."; if nothing happened in 12 of June, don't worry about us, we are so hopeful , each event would become your nightmare, until we reach the victory :-)

Bill,

"Arrest warrants"? Pah! If they dare to touch them, there will be a civil war, believe me. Otherwise they had imprisoned Mousavi and Karroubi 11 months ago. In a strange way both of them together with Khatami are a kind of "life insurance" for this regime. That is not meant as a critique of the three, but as a proof for the vulnerability of this system.
Meanwhile they treat normal citizens as if they were livestock, look at this video, where the police puts youngsters in the car boot! http://www.peykeiran.com/Content.aspx?ID=17503" rel="nofollow">http://www.peykeiran.com/Content.aspx?ID=17503

We will get back our Iran!
