1630 GMT: Algerian police and pro-government activists foiled a sixth attempt by opposition protesters to march in the capital Algiers.

1620 GMT: According to the Al Watan daily, at least 8 killed and more than 20 wounded in clashes between rebels and loyalists at Ras Lanuf.

1610 GMT: It is reported that Libyan revolutionaries shot down two helicopters in Ras Lanuf & Ben Jwad.

Iran Special: Why the "Green Zone" in Tehran is Important Again

At the end of the day it will be the Iranians on the street who will force the hands of the politicians. It will be a rising opposition movement on the ground that will become the catalyst for change in the political system.

So far, observations about political infighting have been inconclusive, though perhaps this will change soon. Right now, the energy is pouring out of the emails, the Tweets, the blog posts. The opposition is fired up; the Green Zone is refusing to go gently into that good night. 

Like a lime being squeezed, the Green Movement is slipping its bonds. The iron fist of the regime tries to tighten its grip, but the Green Zone expands and slips through its fingers.

Libya (and Beyond) LiveBlog: Battlelines Drawn

2150 GMT: In Oman, about 200 protesters in Sohar defied a call to disperse at 6 p.m., reamining at the Globe Roundabout until late evening.

The number of protesters was sharply down from Monday, when nearly 2000 gathered. Six protesters were reportedly killed this weekend by the security forces.

2145 GMT: Associated Press is reporting that security forces killed two demonstrators when they fired tear gas at 100s of anti-government protesters in Sadr in southern Yemen.

Libya (and Beyond) LiveBlog: Eight Protests

2055 GMT: Three tribes in Libya's Oases region have issued a statement that they have joined the opposition and will defend the oil wells near the area

A leader of one of the tribes threatened last week to cut off oil exports to Western countries if Libyan authorities continued to violently crush anti-Gaddafi protests.

The tribes --- al-Zuwayya from Jikharra oasis, El-Mjabra from Jalu's oasis and al-Awajila from Awjila oasis --- wrote, "We hereby announce...that we have joined the victorious revolution from its first day and we confirm that the Oases region as a whole backs the February 17 revolution against the rule of Muammar Gaddafi. The region's youths stand defiant to defend and protect the oil wells that surround the region."

2045 GMT: A source tells Al Jazeera English says that "security officials were at Tripoli medical centre all day today....The injured did not go in for help." He estimates that 70 were killed in the capital last night.

From Tunisia/Egypt to Libya/Iran: Notes of Caution on Sudden Change

Events will move to the breaking point, when someone holds a gun to someone else's head, and everyone is forced to react. With Mir Hossein Mousavi under house arrest, Mehdi Karroubi under the constant guard of security forces in his own home, Hashemi Rafsanjani's power being challenged on the Assembly of Experts, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's term expiring, and the 2009 spirit of dissent reviving, the question is when that point is reached.

The earthquakes of Egypt and Tunisia built up for a long time on softer ground. It has taken, and will take, much longer for the fault lines to break the foundations of Iran's government. When it happens, the regime is likely to go quickly, and like a high-magnitude earthquake, the results will be felt far and wide.

We're already feeling the foreshocks, but the whole world is waiting for the big one.

2150 GMT: Text messages to Libyans declare that a local cleric has issued a fatwa against watching television channels "like Al Jazeera" that incite bloodshed.

2145 GMT: Libya's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, who broke with the regime earlier this week, has appealed to key Brigadier Generals Mahdi Al Arabi and Mohamed Al Esawi to turn against Muammar Qaddafi.
